Jorge Filio (2021 Cohort)
Jorge Filio obtained his B.S. Energy and Sustainability Engineering from Monterrey Tech ('19), MMSc in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University ('21) and is alumni from the Yenching Academy of Peking University ('23). He has work experience in the renewable energy and fintech sectors in China, Mexico and Latin America. He is now working in a Chinese Fortune firm that is investing in northern Mexico as a result of the nearshoring to strengthen the automotive and solar panel supply chain in North America.
Alberto André Najarro Chavez (2022 Cohort)
Born and raised in El Salvador, Alberto André Najarro studied Environmental Scieence and Public Policy at Duke Kunshan University and Duke University. At Duke Kunshan, Alberto was the Green Future Fund Scholarship recipient and served on the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board to the Chancellors and the Commencement Committee. At Duke University, Alberto served on the Public Policy Majors Union at the Sanford School of Public Policy and the International Students Association. Alberto's interest in politics as a platform for social change led him to collaborate at the Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the United Nations in New York, at the Embassy of El Salvador to the United States in Washington D.C., at the Ministry of Public Works of El Salvador and to co-found a political party in El Salvador during his senior year of high school.
Currently, Alberto is pursuing a Master's in Economics and Management (China Studies) at the Yenching Academy of Peking University. His research focuses on trends in the allocation and distribution of Chinese Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) in Latin America, employing a combination of gravity-panel hybrid models and time-series analysis.
In the professional sphere, Alberto is actively involved with a global public affairs consultancy firm, where he contributes to a wide range of projects. Furthermore, he is engaged in a program between the world's largest alternative asset manager and a Beijing-based finance and sustainability firm, further deepening his experience in finance and sustainability.

Asma Bachikh (2017 Cohort)
Asma Bachikh is an international development professional with a background in water resources management and Climate change adaptation. She has extensive experience working across a range of water and climate adaptation issues in North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia with the World Bank and UNEP. She is currently working at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank supporting the preparation and implementation of AIIB’s investment projects in the water sector.
Asma holds an MSc in Water Science Policy and Management from the University of Oxford and a Master’s in international relations and politics from Peking University.
Christopher Newby (2022 Cohort)
Christopher Newby was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He attended the University of Cape Town, where he completed two undergraduate degrees in History and Law, and graduated cum laude with a Master's in Law specializing in International Law. He was a research assistant employed at the Department of Public Law, UCT. He plans to further his studies through the Law and Society research track at Yenching Academy. In his first year, his interest was China and the fourth industrial revolution - the impacts of technology and AI on developing markets, the future of work, labor trends, and the role of law. In his second year, he is an intern at the New Development Bank (NDB) and has developed a keen interest in understanding the development of BRICS and how Sino-African relations will unfold in the 21st century. Speaking English natively, and Afrikaans and Mandarin as additional languages, Christopher looks forward to improving his Mandarin proficiency and gaining a deeper understanding of China - its people and culture.
