If you are passionate about international cooperation and want to make your mark on the important global discussion about China and the world, the Yenching Global Symposium is one of China’s leading forums for emerging leaders to engage on these issues. We invite you to join us at 2022 YGS!
What is the Yenching Global Symposium
The YGS is the flagship event of the Yenching Academy of Peking University, initiated and organized by the students of the Academy. The forum aims to provide a platform for young leaders and industry experts from all over the world to conduct interdisciplinary dialogues on issues related to China from a multicultural perspective.
At present, the forum has been held five times with diverse participants from more than 60 countries and regions around the world. Guests invited to previous forums include He Yafei, the former deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China; Kenneth Jarrett, former President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Martin Raiser, Country Director for China and Mongolia, and Director for Korea; and Tian Wei, the anchor of CGTN.
This years' YGS will be held online from April 8th to 10th, 2022, featuring a series of high-level dialogues and debates that take countries and their constituent politics, cultures and histories as the starting point for approaching the issues that face the world that we live in today, considering them from a national and international perspective. We invite you to contribute your ideas in the engaging lectures, panel discussions, and interactive sessions!
2022 YGS Theme
Globalisation or Guóbalisation? Internationalism in Flux
Leaders of today’s world face crisis after crisis - COVID-19and the ongoing ramifications of a deadly virus; the climate crisis and the effects of a heating planet; the erosion of national and local cultures in favor of international cultural movements; shocks in the international market that ripple down to the cost of groceries and fuel. Each of these crucial issues shares one central problem: they cannot be solved by individual societies alone.
"Globalisation or Guóbalisation? Internationalism in Flux" examines what it means to operate in today’s hyper-globalized framework from an interdisciplinary perspective, with the three subthemes being:
- Looking Inwards: Turning Against Globalisation
- Looking Outwards: Links across borders
- Looking Forward: International Institutions in the Shadow of COVID-19
